The WBSC Premier12 is the flagship international baseball competition of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, bringing together the strongest national programmes in the world. For the expanded 2027 edition, the top 12 teams in the WBSC World Rankings qualified directly, while two qualifying tournaments determine the remaining four participants.
Barcelona hosted the first of these qualifiers, with Spain, Colombia, Italy and Germany competing over three days for two places in the WBSC Premier12 2027. Spain and Italy ultimately secured qualification for the main tournament.
PLAYO Production delivered the complete live broadcast production of the tournament with an 11-camera setup, providing comprehensive coverage of all six games. The production included live directing, instant replay, television graphics, audio production and delivery of the final international programme feed.
The setting made the event particularly special. The Carlos Pérez de Rozas Baseball Field is located within Barcelona’s Olympic Ring on Montjuïc and was used as a baseball training facility during the 1992 Olympic Games. The Olympic Stadium, Palau Sant Jordi and the iconic Olympic cauldron are all located nearby.
Producing the Premier12 Qualifier added another major WBSC event to PLAYO Production’s international baseball portfolio and gave our team the opportunity to work on the qualification stage of one of the most prestigious national-team baseball competitions in the world.
